Agora, em 1985, o assassinato do Comediante, um herói que se tornou agente do governo, chama a atenção de Rorschach, o último dos vigilantes banidos. A investigação de Rorschach envolve seus colegas aposentados, Nite Owl, Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan e Ozymandias, em um conflito com seus passados, uns com os outros e em um mistério que ameaça suas vidas e um mundo à beira da guerra.
